I am generically angry about a generic sensitive topic and how other people handle it. I am posting it here so that my friends can tell me how smart and pretty and awesome I am (and how dumb, ugly and lame those who disagree with me are) so that I feel better about myself. Please do not post contrary comments or, worse, bring your friends to tell me I'm not smart, pretty or awesome. I may be forced to lock comments or something similarly drastic.
Okay, I've got the Web site all polished up and working. And we've had one person register as it is. So, this is my annual pimping of AmberCon Northwest. ETA: The date of the convention this year is November 6-9.
The Web site is here. For those who need some sort of explanation or something before taking the plunge, check behind the cut. I'm happy to answer what questions I can, and anyone that wants to add their own pimping in the comments should feel free to do so.
I'll note that while I do volunteer for the con, I'm not a spokesperson. I'm just pushy. I especially encourage geeks in the Pacific Northwest to go, since Portland is so convenient and the con is so awesome. Even if you don't know what this whole "Amber" thing is, there are plenty of games that you can enjoy without having to know about those treacherous scions of Amber.
I'm leaving this post public so that it is easier to spread this around.
If you are an ACNW attendee and are interested in letting other ACNW people that you have an LJ account, put "acnw" in your interests and repost this message to encourage other people to do so. It will make finding LJ accounts of other ACNW-goers easier to find.
(Of course, if you don't want to be found, then don't do any of this.)
I have a friend who emailed me about a job opening at his company and asked if I knew anyone that would fit this bill. I thought I'd toss this out here and see if anyone would fit this category or knew someone who did. This job is in downtown Seattle. What he specifically asked was:
Know anyone who is looking for a Systems Administrator job in an Advertising Firm?
Must know MAC OSX, Linux (RedHat, CentOS), and of course Windows 2003 server and XP.
They've apparently gotten lots of qualified resumes, but none that mention Mac experience so that could be your edge.
I'll leave the post public but screen the comments. Leave your email address if you're interested and I'll put you two together.
Not sure if staxxy has seen this on the bus already, or whether karjack will be able to benefit from something in Seattle, but...
On the bus I saw an ad for a clinical research study through Swedish Rheumatology Research. The ad I saw claimed that it was going to "evaluate an investigational device therapy, which may reduce your pain and improve your quality of life." You have to be 18+ years old, suffer from fibromyalgia and have widespread pain. The number on the ad was 206-386-3792.
So it seems there are a few research studies going on. So, if you're interested in being a guinea pig with the vague hope of help, this might be an option. I'm going to make this post public (assuming I don't cock it up) so that anyone with fibro friends in the area can check it out.
Final money for the con is due tomorrow. (I still need to pay for the wife's membership. I'm out of checks, though, and don't know if I have anymore about the house.) Games are requested to be in Next Monday. That's September 3rd. Current game count is at 28. Typically we have at least 70-80. I'm not sure how many we actually need though.
This post will be left public so you can point people over here and spread the word.
